Walt Weiss Named Atlanta Braves’ New Manager, Replacing Retiring Brian Snitker.vc

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves have a new manager. The team announced on Monday that former player and long-time bench coach Walt Weiss will replace the retiring Brian Snitker as the 49th manager in franchise history.

The 61-year-old Weiss is a familiar face to the organization, having spent the past eight seasons (2018-2025) as the club’s major league bench coach under Snitker.

This marks Weiss’s second managerial stint. He previously served as the manager for the Colorado Rockies from 2013 to 2016, compiling a 283-365 record. His history with the Braves also includes a tenure as a special assistant to the general manager from 2002 to 2008.

A Deep History with the Braves

Weiss’s roots in Atlanta run deep. As a player, he had stints with the Athletics, Marlins, and Rockies before ending his 14-year career as a shortstop with the Braves (1998-2000). His playing time in Atlanta included being a member of the 1999 team that won the National League pennant and played in the World Series.

During his more recent tenure as the team’s bench coach, Weiss was a critical part of one of the most successful eras in franchise history. In that time, the Braves made seven postseason appearances, won six consecutive National League East division titles, and captured the 2021 World Series.

Weiss takes over from Snitker, the beloved manager who announced in October that he would step down from his post. The team confirmed that Snitker will remain with the organization, transitioning to an advisory role next season.
