Twins Make Bold Coaching Addition, Hiring Grady Sizemore From White Sox. DD

Despite reportedly being offered a role with the White Sox for next season, Grady Sizemore is leaving for a division rival.

The Chicago White Sox are entering the offseason with a notable change to their coaching staff. Grady Sizemore, a familiar face on the South Side, has officially accepted a position with the Minnesota Twins as their outfield and baserunning coach, also handling duties at first base under new manager Derek Shelton.

Sizemore, 43, joined the White Sox organization in 2024, initially as a Major League coach, bringing his professional playing experience and insight into the clubhouse. Last season, he served as the team’s offensive coordinator, a role that was newly created within the White Sox coaching structure, highlighting the franchise’s commitment to developing a more specialized approach to hitting and offensive strategy. His departure leaves a key spot open in the coaching staff as the White Sox continue a broader team overhaul.

Reports indicate that the White Sox offered Sizemore a continued role for the upcoming season, but the expanded responsibilities with Minnesota — including a dual role that combines outfield and baserunning coaching along with first-base duties — proved to be a more compelling opportunity. This move underscores Sizemore’s ambition to grow his coaching career at the major league level while still impacting player development on the field.

Chicago is no stranger to coaching changes; the organization did not renew the contracts of four other coaches at the end of the season, signaling a broader re-evaluation of its staff as part of a strategic rebuild. With Sizemore’s departure, the White Sox face the challenge of not only filling a key coaching role but also ensuring continuity and stability for players who had benefited from his guidance.

The team now has an opportunity to bring in fresh perspectives, potentially promoting from within or scouting new coaching talent to continue shaping a competitive and modern White Sox roster. While losing Sizemore is certainly a change, the organization’s proactive approach to staff restructuring reflects a long-term vision of sustained growth and competitiveness in the American League.
