The Philadelphia Phillies are poised to acquire Nolan Arenado in a blockbuster trade, giving their lineup a major power boost heading into 2026. DD

As the St. Louis Cardinals get fully rolling into their offseason plans, the team has been subject to all sorts of trade rumors around the roster. It has been a few years since the Cardinals were serious contenders in the National League, and this has seen the front office look to slowly enter into a rebuild.

The team is expected to trade some of the more veteran players this winter, and there seems to be plenty of interest coming from opposing teams. One player that will likely be moved this offseason is veteran infielder Nolan Arenado, who has been on the trade block multiple times over the past few years.

Arenado has a no-trade clause, so he can pretty much veto any deal that he doesn’t want. St. Louis almost traded the veteran last offseason, but Arenado vetoed the deal that would have sent him to the Houston Astros.

So if the Cardinals are going to move Arenado, they will need to work with him this offseason. However, it seems that Arenado is more willing than ever to be moved, so he could expand his list of teams that he would be willing to go to.

The other big issue in a trade for Arenado has been his contract, but he only has two more years left on his current deal. Arenado is scheduled to make $16 million for the upcoming season, and then $15 million for the 2017 season.

While many around the sport do believe that Arenado will switch teams this winter, it’s all speculation until something goes down. But Arenado wants to play in more meaningful games, so a trade may be the best course of action for him this time around.

Philadelphia Phillies Will Trade For Nolan Arenado

One team that has been previously linked to a trade of Arenado and is seen as a contender is the Philadelphia Phillies. Philadelphia made the postseason again this season, but they fell short once again.

This could see the front office look to make some changes to the roster, and adding the former All-Star could be in play. The Phillies have wanted more production from third base over the years, and bringing in someone like Arenado could help things.

While he isn’t the star player that he was a few seasons ago, Arenado is more than capable of holding his own on both sides. The veteran may also be coming in extremely motivated since the Phillies have a real chance to make a run at the World Series.

It has been a few seasons since Arenado has been able to play for a contender, and the Phillies could make a lot of sense for him. This would be a gamble by Philadelphia, but sometimes, these types of moves need to be done to fully get over the hump.
