A win is a win in the NFL. For the Kansas City Chiefs, not many, outside of all the haters, thought this team would be 5-5 through 10 games going into Sunday. The dynasty isn’t over just yet, though. All five losses this season have been one-score games, but they finally won one, as the Indianapolis Colts crumbled in overtime.

“This is exactly what we needed,” quarterback Patrick Mahomes told reporters after the win. “To win against a really good football team and the game isn’t going your way, you could have folded. The guys responded to every single unit. Offense, we found a way, and defense gave us so many chances. We needed a win like this. Now, let’s try to build off of it.”

It was an ugly win for the Chiefs, but as Mahomes said, they needed that. And let’s not forget, this isn’t your mom-and-pop Colts’ team – they could be the best team in the AFC right now.

Chiefs get the hardest remaining game on the schedule out of the way

The Chiefs can still make the postseason, and this win significantly boosts their chances. But had they lost that game against the Colts at home, it could have been the metaphorical nail in the coffin to their season, much earlier than anyone anticipated. This victory was a crucial turning point, showing they can stay in playoff contention, and they knew that, too.

“It’s an urgency thing. It was a do-or-die type of thing,” Mahomes continued. “It wasn’t one person, it was everyone… We still aren’t where we want to be at. But this is big – getting a win against a good football team.”

Now, the hardest games the Chiefs have remaining on their schedule are the AFC West matchups against the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Chargers. They also face the Houston Texans, who have looked good as of late, but aren’t as strong as the three teams we’ve already mentioned: Indy, Denver, and the Chargers.

Chiefs’ remaining 2025 games

  • Week 14: vs. Houston Texans (Sunday Night Football) – Sunday, Dec. 7 at 7:20 p.m. CT on ESPN
  • Week 15: vs. Los Angeles Chargers – Sunday, Dec. 14 at Noon CT on CBS
  • Week 16: @ Tennessee Titans – Sunday, Dec. 21 at Noon CT on CBS
  • Week 17: vs. Denver Broncos (Christmas Night) – Thursday, Dec. 25 at 7:15 p.m. CT on Prime Video
  • Week 18: vs. Las Vegas Raiders – TBD

Winning this game, and the way they won it, against the Colts, says that they can win the rest of their games. You truly never know what will happen in divisional games, as the Chiefs could lose to the Las Vegas Raiders for all we know. But winning out is possible. This iteration of the Chiefs has shown they can win close, ugly games, which they did every game last season, and not all this season.
