The Baltimore Orioles are coming off an unfortunate season. They were not able to get the ball rolling at all this season, finishing the year in last place in the American League East and missing the postseason.
Not long into the season, the club decided to part ways with manager Brandon Hyde. And after interviewing a few names, they recently decided to go with Craig Albernaz as their newest manager.
Albernaz was recently with the Cleveland Guardians, working as their associate manager. Now, he heads into his first season as the guy calling the shots, and he certainly has his work cut out for him.
Orioles ready to trade top prospects to help bolster the rotation
One hole the Orioles must fill is the lack of depth in their starting rotation. They cannot go into the new season depending on someone like Grayson Rodriguez to stay healthy.
They must do their best to add to the depth, and are expected to do just that. However, it may not be in free agency, according to the president of baseball operations, Mike Elias, via Fansided’s Robert Murray.
“I think we’re going to be very willing to tap into the farm system. A number of our prospects are in Double or Triple-A, so they enter the major-league radar picture and that can get complicated as you’re trying to make a trade for 2026. If there’s guys that might come up and help, we’re going to have to factor that in. But we’re certainly willing to tap into the farm system. There’s a lot of players that teams will like.”
Elias states that the club is willing to part ways with some prospects to help fill the holes. But they will be smart about their decision. They are not going to make lopsided trade suggestions just to fill the hole. If the trade seems suitable for Baltimore, they will pull he trigger. If not, they will look at another plan of attack.
