They were married for nearly 20 years

Nicole Kidman has suggested that she’s been left ‘broken’ by her ‘devastating’ recent divorce to Keith Urban.

After 19 years together, it was confirmed that the A-list celebrity couple had split up in September, with the country singer reportedly moving out of their home months prior.

It seemingly came as something of a surprise to the Moulin Rouge actress, who has two daughters with the musician, and it seems she’s still struggling to comprehend a new life without him.

She could also be set to lose out on a lot of money, as multiple media outlets have suggested that there was a ‘cocaine clause‘ inserted into their pre-nuptials, with Urban previously struggling with drug and alcohol addiction when he first met Kidman.

The clause states that he would receive a financial reward if he steered clear of booze and substances, amounting to $900,000 for every year of marriage he remained teetotal. If he was able to abstain from alcohol and drugs for the near 20 years that they were wed, then he would be in line to receive a substantial fee.

Now, Kidman has sat down with the press ahead of upcoming projects to discuss life without her husband, reflecting on ‘painful’ and ‘difficult’ moments that she has experienced but ultimately survived.

‘You’re going to feel like you’re broken’

Speaking to women’s fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar, she was asked about the best parts of growing older, in which she seemingly alludes to the difficult divorce she’s currently going through.

She said: “There’s something to knowing that no matter how painful, or how difficult, or how devastating something is, there is a way through. You’re going to have to feel it. You’re not going to be able to numb it.

“You are going to have to feel it, and it’s going to feel insurmountable at times. You’re going to feel like you’re broken, but if you move gently and slowly—and it can take an enormous amount of time—it does pass.”

Kidman, 58, had initially filed for divorce on 30 September, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, which came as a shock given they’ve both previously spoken about their intense love for each other, particularly after she staged an intervention for him just months after they were married.

‘You’re either gonna choose to get out of this s**t, or you’re never gonna get out of it’

Urban had said: “All through the years of drinking and doing drugs and all the rest of it, I always had this very specific voice inside of me that goes, ‘One day, you’re gonna come to a crossroads or a fork in the road, and it’ll be the final one’.

“I knew that was it,” he said in reference to marrying Kidman. “I’m like, ‘Oh, this is that fork in the road’. You’re either gonna choose to get out of this s**t, or you’re never gonna get out of it.”

The pair will continue co-parenting their teenage daughters together, although court documents have suggested that Urban will have custody for just 59 days of the year.
