Major League Baseball announced this past summer that the Field of Dreams Game would be brought back once again in 2026, with the Philadelphia Phillies facing off against the Minnesota Twins. It’s the first time the event is taking place since 2022.

The 2026 Field of Dreams Game is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13, in Dyersville, Iowa. Now we know where fans will be watching the special event. As we learned on Wednesday, the game will be streamed live on Netflix as part of MLB’s new media rights deals (subscription required).

MLB agreed to a new three-year, $750 million media rights deal from 2026-28 with NBCUniversal, ESPN, and Netflix. Netflix will cover Opening Night, the Home Run Derby and the Field of Dreams Game. It’s a massive change for viewership, but it was an inevitability with MLB commissioner Rob Manfred wanting to expand the reach of the game on streaming platforms coming off record viewership in 2025.

Phillies fans will have to stream the Field of Dreams Game on Netflix next summer

This will be the third installment of the Field of Dreams Game, played on the same field that the movie was filmed on. The first two contests were in 2021 and 2022. The Phillies will have the pleasure of playing in the historic game for the first time while also being a part of the inaugural MLB Netflix season.

The Field of Dreams Game had previously been broadcast by Fox Sports but will make way for Netflix, which has over 90 million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada and more than 300 million around the world, per MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince. Netflix was used to just streaming baseball documentaries but will now play a vital part in the viewing experience for at least the next three seasons.

“We are incredibly thankful for our partnership with Major League Baseball,” Netflix’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria said, per Castrovince. “We started with critically-acclaimed documentaries, deepening the existing global passion for baseball. Now, we are seizing that moment by bringing massive cultural spectacles — from Opening Night to the Home Run Derby — directly to our members, reinforcing Netflix as the ultimate home for both the story and the sport.”

MLB’s previous media rights deals were messy to say the least. There were multiple channels and avenues to get game coverage, and MLB felt that they were behind and outdated when it came to the media rights part of viewership. They reworked their long-standing relationship with ESPN, giving them the rights to MLB.TV, along with incorporating new experiences for baseball fans worldwide. MLB is also still continuing its relationship with Apple TV+, along with Fox Sports, FS1, and TBS.

Streaming platforms have changed how Phillies fans will watch baseball forever. More and more of the games played each season will be dedicated to streaming platforms for coverage, and Netflix is just the newest one. It won’t be going away anytime soon, so we might as well make the most of it while it’s here.
