Jimmy Kimmel turns criticism into action by opening a food donation center after calling out Trump on SNAP cuts.NH

Jimmy Kimmel is putting actions to his words.

After criticizing President Donald Trump in his Nov. 3 “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” monologue for hosting “the most ill-timed, tone-deaf Halloween party imaginable,” the late-night host announced the lot behind his Hollywood studio will open to the public as a food donation center.

Of course, his ABC show couldn’t help but get in another dig at the president in naming this community service the Jimmy Kimmel Live Big, Beautiful Food Bank – a spoof of the former One Big Beautiful Bill Act legislation that reallocated government spending and passed tax reforms.

Cutting SNAP benefits creates uncertainty for American children, seniors and families,” Kimmel and his show wrote in a Nov. 4 social media post. “If you are in LA, please come by to donate food and if you are not, please consider supporting your local food banks.”

The center, open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily at 6901 Hawthorn Ave., Los Angeles, is requesting nonperishable items such as low-sugar cereals, protein bars, rice, low-sodium soups, crackers, trail mix, diapers and hygiene products.Need a news break? Check out the all new PLAY hub with puzzles, games and more!SNAP is in peril, but Trump says program will be half funded. Jimmy Kimmel slams Trump for Gatsby-themed Halloween party

The Trump administration has been ordered by two courts to provide funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as low-income Americans could become at risk of going without benefits in November. But it’s unclear how soon people would begin to receive their food stamps and how much they would or wouldn’t get.

On Nov. 3, Kimmel called out the president for celebrating during an inflection point for many Americans’ livelihoods and noted the irony of hosting a party with a theme that’s tied to a book about class disparities.

“Hours before millions of low-income Americans were set to lose their SNAP benefits, Trump flew to Mar-a-Lago for a big Halloween bash with a ‘Great Gatsby’ theme, which is a theme you would select only if you’ve never read ‘The Great Gatsby,'” Kimmel said.

With the government shutdown entering its 36th day on Nov. 5, it became the longest in U.S. history. Millions of Americans continue to be impacted by unpaid worktravel delays and other disruptions to daily life.

Democrats have refused to vote for an end to the shutdown until Republicans repeal the cutbacks made this summer that would kick millions off Medicaid and end insurance subsidies set to expire at the end of the calendar year. These subsidies make it less expensive for low and middle-class Americans to purchase health insurance on the exchange.
