Gayle King scored an exclusive interview with Telisha Nikki Jones, the creator and visionary behind Ai-powered R&B singer Xania Monet.

CBS Mornings will air the exclusive interview on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Check your local TV schedule.

Xania was designed by Telisha, a poet from Mississippi, who used Suno to create her singing voice.

Jones signed a $3 million record deal for Xania after a bidding war. Xania is the first AI artist to debut on a Billboard radio chart with her song “How Was I Supposed to Know.”

Xania has captivated audiences worldwide. The singer, who doesn’t exist in the flesh, has more than 152,000 followers on Instagram.

Gayle King explores how Telisha created Xania Monet, and raises an important question about AI’s growing influence in music and what effect it will have on real artists.

Xania’s manager, Romel Murphy, spoke with CNN’s Victor Blackwell, and insisted there is no intent to replace human singers and songwriters with AI.

“AI doesn’t replace the artist. That’s not our goal at all. It doesn’t diminish the creativity and doesn’t take away from the human experience,” he said.

Billboard reported that “at least six AI or AI-assisted artists have debuted on various Billboard rankings” in just the past few months.

AI concerns real singers like Kehlani. “I don’t respect it,” she told her followers on TikTok.

“There is an AI R&B artist who just signed a multimillion-dollar deal … and the person is doing none of the work. This is so beyond out of our control. Nothing and no one on Earth will ever be able to justify AI to me,” she added.
