Old country music just hits so different, and George Strait is a prime reason for that. His music is just on another level, and no matter how old you are, odds are you’ve heard some of his songs. They’re pure childhood nostalgia for me, since my mom was a fan.
He’s not just a country superstar, though: he’s also a stand-up guy. On Friday, August 1st, he made a surprise appearance for a Gunnison Tough cancer charity event. No one saw it coming, but everyone adored it:

Strait wound up at this Gunnison Tough benefit night because of his friend and longtime collaborator, Dean Dillon. Dillon organized the event, as one of the founders of the organization.
The mission of the organization is to raise funds for cancer patients as well as to further cancer research. Though he typically plays huge stadium shows, Strait scaled it back in this intimate performance: a very special treat for those who support this organization.
He was proud of his entrance, too. Once the crowd had calmed down, he said, “I thought that was pretty good, myself.” What a treasure.
George Strait Loves Giving Back

This surprise performance was not Strait’s first taste of charity work. During the floods in Texas last month, the singer raised over $6 million for relief efforts.
He’s also been a known supporter of other organizations like MusiCares and the Military Warriors Support Foundation. Good music made by a good man: what’s not to love?
