Canton honor to be celebrated in June

GREEN BAY – The late Lee Remmel is one of three selections in the public relations directors category to receive the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s “Award of Excellence” in 2026.
Remmel served as Packers PR director from the mid-1970s through the early 2000s. Combining his work as a sportswriter for the Green Bay Press-Gazette, which began in the 1940s, and his time as team historian after his tenure as PR director ended, Remmel’s association with the franchise spanned more than 60 years.
Inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1996, Remmel had the Lambeau Field press box named after him following the stadium renovation in 2003. He died in 2015 at age 90.
The other PR directors to receive the honor, which will be presented in Canton, Ohio, in June, are Scott Berchtold of the Buffalo Bills and Jim Gallagher of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Berchtold’s landed his first full-time job in the NFL with the Packers, hired by Remmel to assist the Packers’ PR department in 1985. After five seasons in Green Bay, Berchtold went on to work 34 years for the Bills.
