The Toronto Blue Jays are once again expected to try and make some big plays on the free-agent market this offseason.

Their biggest goal at this point in time is to try and re-sign Bo Bichette, who is currently weighing his options. The decision he makes will wind up playing a part in just how active the Jays front office is when it comes to adding free agents.

Regardless of the decision Bichette makes, the Blue Jays have become a very intriguing market for players. They not only have the money to dish out, but proved to everybody in the world what a baseball market Toronto is thanks to their epic World Series run.

While they certainly won’t be adding every player below, here’s a list of some top free agents the Jays have been linked to early this offseason.

Kyle Tucker

  • Most recent team: Chicago Cubs
  • Age: 28
  • Position: RF
  • 2025 stats: 136 GP, .266, 22 HR, 73 RBI

Kyle Tucker is the best player available in this year’s free-agent class, and the Jays are expected to make a push for him.

“After trying in free agency for Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto and Yoshinobu Yamamoto with no luck in recent years, this is precisely the time for the Blue Jays to make the biggest move of the winter by giving Vladimir Guerrero Jr. his left-handed complement. Sign free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker,” ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote earlier in the week.

Tucker boasts an incredible resume, which includes four-straight All-Star appearances, two Silver Slugger Awards, and a Gold Glove Award. Adding his bat to the lineup would, as Passan mentioned, help support Guerrero.

Edwin Diaz

  • Most recent team: New York Mets
  • Age: 31
  • Position: RP
  • 2025 stats: 66.1 IP, 1.63 ERA, 28 SV, 98 SO

GM Ross Atkins didn’t rule out the Blue Jays getting a closer in the offseason, which explains their ties to the best on the market in Edwin Diaz. The 31-year-old closer was linked to the Blue Jays by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

After missing the 2023 season due to injury and struggling at times in 2024, Diaz rebounded in 2025 to re-establish himself as arguably the best closer in all of baseball. The 31-year-old would be a massive add for the Jays, and would presumably bump Jeff Hoffman into the set-up position.

Framber Valdez

  • Most recent team: Houston Astros
  • Age: 31
  • Position: SP
  • 2025 stats: 192 IP, 3.66 ERA, 187 SO

There are character concerns with Framber Valdez. Looking at him from purely a baseball fit, though, the man can flat-out pitch. The two-time All-Star is coming off his worst season since 2019, which is saying something given that his numbers were still quite strong. That is why the left-hander is being suggested to the Jays by Mitch Bannon of The Athletic.

Valdez would be an elite add to what is already a great Blue Jays starting rotation. Having him alongside Kevin Gausman, Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber, and Jose Berrios would give the Jays one of the best starting rotations in all of baseball.

Ranger Suárez

  • Most recent team: Philadelphia Phillies
  • Age: 30
  • Position: SP
  • 2025 stats: 157.1 IP, 3.20 ERA, 151 SO

Though not as talented as Valdez, Ranger Suárez is one of the better starting pitchers available, and also happens to throw left handed. Adding a lefty to next year’s starting rotation would be big, hence why Bob Nightengale of USA Today is linking him to the Blue Jays.

Suarez, who is still very much in his prime at the age of 30, has posted an ERA of 3.65 or lower in four of his five seasons as a starting pitcher. The 2024 season, which saw him post a 3.46 ERA, resulted in him getting an All Star nod for the first time in his career.

Devin Williams

  • Most recent team: New York Yankees
  • Age: 31
  • Position: RP
  • 2025 stats: 62 IP, 4.79 ERA, 18 SV, 90 SO

There is no denying that Devin Williams struggled in what appears to be his first and only season with the New York Yankees. After being viewed as one of the best relief pitchers in baseball for several years, his stock has taken a hit after a rough 2025 campaign.

Despite his struggles, Williams’ stuff remains elite, suggesting a bounce back is in store. The right-hander is capable of being a set-up man or a closer. Regardless of the role he’s in, he would help what was an inconsistent Blue Jays bullpen in 2025. Several have linked him to the Jays, most recently Bannon of The Athletic.

Michael King

  • Most recent team: San Diego Padres
  • Age: 30
  • Position: SP
  • 2025 stats: 73.1 IP, 3.44 ERA, 76 SO

Michael King’s track record is not nearly as lengthy as Valdez’s nor Suárez’s, but he’s impressed during his short time as a starter. In 2024, his first full season as a starter, he posted a 2.95 ERA and finished seventh in NL Cy Young voting.

Despite his injury-riddled 2025 season, King was effective when healthy. He’s been linked to the Jays by MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand and would be a welcome addition by Jays fans, even though he, too, is right-handed.

Tatsuya Imai

  • Most recent team: Saitama Seibu Lions
  • Age: 27
  • Position: SP
  • 2025 stats: 163.2 IP, 1.92 ERA, 178 SO

If the Blue Jays don’t wind up adding to their rotation from the MLB free-agent list, they could instead look for an international signing. One name they have been linked to is Japanese pitcher Tatsuya Imai.

Imai, who is a three-time NPB All-Star, was most recently linked to the Jays by Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith.

“A good player with a really interesting arsenal that had an incredible year,” Atkins said of Imai. “So we’ve done the (background) work and we have some more work to do on that front, but I’m glad that he’s going to be an option for the industry.”

Munetaka Murakami

  • Most recent team: Tokyo Yakult Swallows
  • Age: 25
  • Position: INF
  • 2025 stats: 56 GP, .273, 22 HR, 47 RBI

Another potential international add the Jays brass has their eye on is 25-year-old Munetaka Murakami. He has the ability to play both first and third base, and, as you can see based on his stats, is an elite hitter.

Murakami has appeared in four All-Star Games in the NPB and is also a two-time league MVP. There are several other teams said to be in on him as well, though perhaps Toronto’s lengthy playoff run will give them the upper hand.
