Dallas Cowboys face a shocking Christmas blow before Week 16 even kicks off, leaving fans stunned and playoff hopes in jeopardy.QQ

It should be no surprise, but the Dallas Cowboys are done for the 2025 NFL season.

Not even Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was holding out hope his team would make it to the NFL playoffs.
After the Cowboys’ loss to the Minnesota Vikings, he admitted the postseason was probably out of the picture. Now, you can toss the word “probably” out. Following Saturday’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders, it’s official, as the Cowboys get a lump of coal ahead of Christmas.

Cowboys officially eliminated from the playoffs
The Eagles’ expected win over the Commanders makes it official: Philly will repeat as NFC East champions.
For the Cowboys, it means the season is unequivocally over. Securing the division title was the lone path to the playoffs, as they were already eliminated from wild-card contention in Week 15. It was always an unlikely scenario as the Cowboys needed to win their last three while the Eagles needed to lose three.
But you know what they say, hope is the last thing to ever lost. Well, now it’s gone.
Eagles’ win means NFC East curse is over
No team in the NFC East had done the division in consecutive years since 2004, when the Eagles also won it back-to-back. It’s one of the wildest streaks across the entire NFL, and it stings the Cowboys weren’t the one to break it. After all, they’ve had some pretty solid teams and two franchise quarterbacks in that span in Tony Romo and Dak Prescott.
But the Eagles have built the better franchise, and there’s no way to deny it. They’ve won the Super Bowl twice since the 2017 season, each time with significantly different teams. Last February was their third appearance since Nick Foles led the Eagles to a win over the New England Patriots.
Cowboys to play Dak Prescott, starters
Despite being eliminated, you can expect the Cowboys to play their starters in Week 16 and below. That has been the message from the front office, coaching staff, and even Dak Prescott ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The decision makes sense. Draft positioning matters, but it pales in comparison to learning how to win, which the Cowboys need to do under head coach Brian Schottenheimer. Dallas has had only one winning streak all year long. Tanking makes little sense when you’re not even in the range of a Top 5 overall pick. Winning is what you build on. Let’s see if they can do it over the next three weeks.
