š° NEWS FLASH: Jhonkensy Noel is out in Cleveland following a roster shift nobody saw coming, and fans are still trying to process how it happened ā”.NL

Just a year ago, the Cleveland Guardians had high hopes for Johnkensy Noel. After flashing serious power potential and stepping up in key moments during the postseason, Noel looked like a breakout candidate heading into the season. The Guardians were in need of a physical, power-hitting presence in the outfield, and Noel fit the bill – at least on paper.

But baseball doesnāt run on potential alone. And when the results didnāt follow, the Guardians made the tough call. Noel was designated for assignment, a move that, while disappointing, wasnāt entirely unexpected given how his season played out.
Letās break it down.
According to team sources, this wasnāt about money. Noel was on a team-friendly deal, set to make just over the league minimum.

The decision came down to performance and roster flexibility. The Guardians needed a spot on the 40-man roster to add left-hander Justin Bruihl, and Noelās struggles at the plate made him the odd man out.
He hit just .162 over 148 at-bats, and more than a third of those ended in strikeouts. Thatās a tough line for any hitter, especially one trying to carve out a long-term role in a crowded outfield.

To his credit, Noel did show some fight. After being sent back down to the minors, he made adjustments and earned another look.
But even in his return stint, the production didnāt match the expectations. The raw power is still there – that partās never been in question – but the consistency hasnāt followed.
And in a league that demands results, especially from young players trying to stick, that inconsistency can be costly.

The Guardians still believe in Noelās upside, and a reunion down the line isnāt off the table. Heās got the tools to be a legitimate big-league slugger – size, strength, and bat speed that jumps off the page. But with the outfield pipeline quickly filling up, the window for him to make his mark in Cleveland may be narrowing.

Prospects like George Valera, Chase DeLauter, and C.J. Kayfus are pushing their way into the conversation, and with that kind of young talent knocking on the door, Noelās place on the depth chart took a hit. Itās not that the Guardians gave up on him – itās that they had to make a decision, and right now, others are simply ahead of him in the pecking order.

This is the reality of roster management in MLB. Teams have to balance potential with production, and sometimes that means moving on from a player who hasnāt quite put it all together yet. Noelās story isnāt finished – far from it – but for now, heās on the outside looking in.
