Carlos Alcaraz took on Jannik Sinner in the final of the ATP Finals on Sunday, for the last time this year. The blockbuster was not short of drama off court either, as the match had to be delayed midway through because of an unfortunate interruption.

Alcaraz and Sinner have both been undefeated in Turin this week, winning all four of their clashes to reach the final. With the year-end World No. 1 already secured for Alcaraz, Sinner was fighting to defend his title in Turin on Sunday.

The opening set started off as intensely as expected, with the first three games getting held by the server. With Sinner serving next, the match was interruped at 40-40 when a spectator in the stands needing medical attention.

As the on-site doctors rushed to help the fan in the stadium, the umpire decided to stop the action at 14 minutes. The delay lasted quite a while, during which Alcaraz and Sinner cut calm figures and chatted with each other on the court and with the chair umpire.

Finally, after 10 minutes of delay, play resumed at the ATP Finals, with Sinner immediately having to serve out the game. According to the ATP rules, only delays in excess of 15 minutes will see the players get an additional warm-up before resuming action. The Italian went on to make it 2-2 in the next two service points.

After the match delay, Jannik Sinner went on to beat Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets, defending his title at the ATP Finals. For the second year in a row, the Italian managed to achieve it without dropping a set at the tournament.

The first set on Sunday ended in a tiebreaker, with Sinner winning 7-6(4). Alcaraz broke early to start the second set, but got broken back for 3-3. At 6-5*, serving to stay in the match, the Spaniard lost serve for the second time on the night, losing the set 5-7. Sinner, despite the win, remains World No. 2, with Alcaraz currently leading him by 550 ranking points.
