Don Mattingly breaks silence on why he left Toronto
Mattingly spent the last three season as the bench coach for manager John Schneider as he helped him navigate his first big league manager job.

Mike Wilner from the Toronto Star stated that left because he felt as though his job in Toronto was complete.
«Mattingly’s decision to leave after three years as manager John Schneider’s bench coach (plus duties as offensive coordinator in 2024) came as a surprise, but he feels as though his job was complete,» -Wilner
«I came to Toronto to be along John’s side as he was getting started,» Mattingly said, per Wilner. «Just be a voice – an older voice, a more experienced voice – and just allow him to do his thing but kind of be an earpiece for him, another set of eyes.» -Mattingly

Now that Schneider has led the Blue Jays to a World Series apperance and was up for AL Manager of the Year, he feels as though he did what he needed to in Toronto and that his experience can be used elsewhere.
