After a hot month of October, the Kansas City Chiefs took a bit of a step back offensively during their Week 9 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Kansas City scored on just four of 10 possessions in that game, and turned the ball over twice. The offensive line struggled to protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes for much of the day, leading to his worst performance of the season.

The Chiefs will look to get back to their explosive and efficient ways on offense against the Denver Broncos in a pivotal Week 11 matchup. While speaking to the media on Thursday, offensive coordinator Matt Nagy revealed some lessons he took away from the loss to Buffalo that can be applied moving forward.

Matt Nagy knows the areas where Chiefs offense must improve

“The thing that stuck out, and we talked about this as a team and as an offense, is we started off that game with a three-and-out, then we came out in the second half and went three and out,” Nagy said of the matchup against the Bills. “We were also not efficient at the end of the half with getting a touchdown. We got a field goal from the one-yard line, and they stopped us on fourth down.

“The things that we’ve been good at most of the year, we struggled with, and that’s a credit to Buffalo. They did a great job of putting us in those positions, and they’re a good football team. Pat’s (Patrick Mahomes) always going to be hard on himself. We as coaches want to see schematically, where can we be better? Then you got to be able to respond. It’s not going to be an easy year. It’s not going to be an easy week. As the weeks go on, win or lose, how do you handle adversity?”

Part of the Chiefs’ success on offense this season can be attributed to being dominant on third and fourth down situations, as well as in the redzone. Getting back to that will be crucial, especially against elite defenses such as Denver’s and the Indianapolis Colts’, who Kansas City will face in Week 12.
