A Subtle Roster Move Just Revealed Everything About the Packers’ Next Big Offensive Play.QQ

Green Bay made a single move ahead of the Eagles game on “Monday Night Football.”

The Green Bay Packers elevated linebacker and special teamer Kristian Welch from the practice squad for gameday to play against the Philadelphia Eagles on “Monday Night Football.” More impactful than the move itself, it’s the lack of other moves that matters for the Packers.
Wide receiver situation
The team has three wide receivers listed as questionable to play — Matthew Golden (shoulder), Dontayvion Wicks (calf), and Savion Williams (foot). That means Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, and Malik Heath were the only receivers certain to play.

However, the Packers opted not to elevate or promote any wide receiver from the practice squad — Isaiah Neyor, Jakobie Keeney-James, and recently-signed Michael Woods II are available. That’s a positive indication that at least two of those questionable receivers, if not the three, will be available to face the Eagles.
Rookie Matthew Golden is the one who is most likely to miss the game, because he did not practice on Friday and Saturday. Wicks and Williams were both limited.
Linebacker Kristian Welch was elevated for gameday for the first time this season. Last week, he had been promoted to the 53-man roster, then got released and signed back to the practice squad.
NFL practice squad rules
The NFL increased the practice squad size during COVID and kept some of the adjusted rules. Of the 16 players, 10 must have up to two accrued seasons, while the other six have no restrictions. There’s also an extra spot for a player with an International Pathway Program exemption — which Green Bay is using for English defensive tackle Dante Barnett.
Throughout the season, teams can elevate practice squad players for gameday. Each player can be elevated three times for the same team without being a member of the active 53-man roster. After the game, the player reverts to the PS.
