A Nashville congressional candidate who claimed she “hates country music” now says she was conceived after a George Strait concert — and voters can’t decide whether to laugh or gasp. ML

Really going all out there to prove her country street cred…
Democrat Congressional candidate Aftyn Behn, who’s running to represent the 7th District of Tennessee in Congress, has been forced to do damage control for the past week or so after resurfaced comments she made about the city she’s hoping to represent in Washington D.C.

The election, which is scheduled for December 2, 2025, is between GOP candidate Matt Van Epps, a veteran and member of the Tennessee National Guard who previously served as the state’s former commissioner of the Tennessee Department of General Services, and Behn, a former community organizer and current representative for Nashville in the Tennessee House of Representatives.
But last week, a resurfaced clip of Behn bashing Nashville went viral on social media.
In the comments from an appearance on the Year Old GRITS podcast on 2020, Behn claimed she “hates” Nashville and country music:
“I hate the city, I hate the bachelorettes, I hate the pedal taverns, I hate country music, I hate all of the things that make Nashville. I hate it.”
It’s not the first time Behn has shown her disdain for the people she wants to represent in Congress. Back in 2019, she wrote an op-ed calling Tennessee a “racist state” and claiming that “racism is in the air we breathe.”
Sounds like a fun person to be around.

Well after her comments on Music City went viral, Behn took to social media to defend herself and claim that she doesn’t REALLY hate Nashville or country music – citing as evidence the fact that she’s cried in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
“Today, the Republicans decided that they’re going to start this narrative that me, the state representative who represents downtown Nashville, doesn’t like the city.”
Yeah, I don’t know where Republicans would get that narrative just from hearing you say “I hate Nashville.” (Direct quote). Gotta be fake news. But anyway, Behn continues:
“Sure, I get mad at the bachelorettes sometimes. I get mad at the pedal taverns, right? You’re talking to somebody who has cried no less than 10 times in the Country Music Hall of Fame. The girl that just goes to the Ryman to hang out. No, no, we’re not even gonna go there.”
Behn went on to call the accusations that she hates Nashville “rumors,” despite the fact that she quite literally said “I hate Nashville.” But anyway, don’t believe your ears when you hear her say she hates Nashville – I mean, she HAS cried at the Hall of Fame.
Well apparently crying at the Country Music Hall of Fame wasn’t enough, because Behn is still doing damage control and trying to prove her country music credentials.
In an interview on the Breaking Points with Krystal and Saagar podcast, Behn was once again asked about the comments, but this time she had even more evidence to prove that she doesn’t really hate country music:
“I’m gonna say something I haven’t said, and I think it’s funny, I hope my parents don’t kill me. I do not hate country music, I was conceived after a George Strait concert.”
Well alrighty then. Didn’t really need to know that, and I’m not sure how it’s relevant to the election, but thanks I guess?
