A LEAGUE OF HIS OWN: Shohei Ohtani Wins 4th Career MVP, Becomes Only Player in History with Multiple Unanimous Victories.vc

With his 2025 NL MVP, Shohei Ohtani is now only the second player in MLB history to win four or more MVP awards. But in a feat that separates him from every other legend, he is the only player to ever win the award unanimously more than once.
LAS VEGAS — Shohei Ohtani’s assault on the baseball record books has reached a new, unprecedented level. The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar was officially named the 2025 National League Most Valuable Player, marking the fourth MVP award of his illustrious career.
The win, which comes after Ohtani led the Dodgers to a World Series title with 55 home runs and a dominant return to the mound, continues to elevate his legacy into a realm of its own.
Only Bonds Has More
With his fourth MVP (2021, 2023, 2024, 2025), Ohtani has officially broken away from the “three-time-winner” club, a legendary group that includes icons like Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, and Mickey Mantle.
He is now only the second player in MLB history to win four or more MVP awards. The only player who has won more is Barry Bonds, who holds the all-time record with seven.
The “Unanimous” Record That Defines Him
While Ohtani joins Bonds in the 4+ MVP club, he holds another, arguably more staggering, record all to himself.
This makes Ohtani the only player in the 154-year history of Major League Baseball to win the MVP award unanimously more than once.
The 2025 NL MVP was, like Ohtani’s previous three victories, a unanimous selection. The Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) once again agreed in unison that he was the league’s most valuable player.
No other player—not Bonds, not Babe Ruth, not Willie Mays—has ever managed to be the undisputed, unanimous choice on multiple ballots. Ohtani has now done it four times, a feat of singular dominance that may never be matched.
