The Dallas Cowboys saw their playoff odds plummet after last Sunday’s 34-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at home. Dallas had won three straight games to get back in the playoff picture. But back-to-back losses left the team’s postseason aspirations on life support.On Saturday, the Philadelphia Eagles officially ended the Cowboys’ season. The Eagles clinched the NFC East for the second straight year with a 29-18 win over the Washington Commanders. The victory eliminated Dallas from playoff contention, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Jerry Jones and the Cowboys were feeling the heat after a 3-5-1 start. Jones opted to trade Micah Parsons prior to the start of the season. And Dallas struggled early under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
But the Cowboys bolstered the defense at the trade deadline, adding Quinnen Williams in a deal with the New York Jets. The unit got healthier as well and Dallas won three straight games, improving to 6-5-1.With a legitimate shot at a playoff berth, the Cowboys went on to lose 44-30 to the Detroit Lions. And then the team suffered a crushing defeat to the Vikings.
Pundits have been critical of George Pickens. After a hot start to his debut season in Dallas, the fourth-year wideout disappeared during the Cowboys’ playoff push. Pickens has put together a career-best campaign. But he recorded 5/37/0 and 3/33/0 receiving lines in back-to-back must-win games for Dallas.
The Eagles overcame an early disaster, fumbling the opening kickoff in Saturday’s matchup against the Commanders. While special teams were a problem for Philadelphia, the Eagles got back on track in the second half and easily beat Washington to win the division.
The Cowboys take on the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday. But the Eagles’ victory turned a pivotal Week 16 clash with playoff implications into a meaningless matchup for Dallas.
