When division games happen, due solely to being soĀ close geographically, plenty of opposing fans infiltrate home stadiums. It’s par for the course, unless you’re the Green Bay Packers and head coach Matt LaFleur.

After Detroit Lions’Ā fans overtook Lambeau FieldĀ in September of 2023,Ā the Packers releasedĀ this statement.

“The Packers have encouraged our ticket holders to sell to other Packers fans when possible, The secondary market, however, allows fans from anywhere to purchase tickets and Lambeau Field remains a popular destination for all fans, including those from other teams. We have seen this particularly with divisional games. Conversely, this is how the Packers often enjoy many Packers fans at away games.ā€

The Packers ended a three-game home losing streak to the Lions back in Week 1 this season,Ā but LaFleur justĀ couldn’t be happy about it.

“The fans that showed up brought great energy,ā€ LaFleur said,Ā to open hisĀ postame press conference. ā€œAnd the fans that sold their tickets to all those Lions fans gotta be better.ā€

No home team loves it when the opposing team’s fans overtake their stadium. The Packers are the only NFL team that goes so aggressively public with derision for the concept, right to the head coach needing to comment about it after a win.

For the Vikings and their fans, it’s “Packers week” for the first time this season heading into a Week 12 matchup at Lambeau Field.

Paul Charchian, who has Minnesota roots, made his regular appearance onĀ 670 The Score in ChicagoĀ on Thursday. Doing some trash talk of Packers’ fans came naturally.

“Here’s why we hate the Packers in Minnesota”, Charchian said. “Like you (in Illinois), we are a border state. Like you, we have all these Wisconsinites, who are raised in Wisconsin, the DNA is ‘Packers all the time’, they grow up, they inherit their great-grandfather’s season tickets.”

“They love the Packers, they’ve had 30-plus years of Hall of Fame quarterbacking, they have competent quarterbacking now.”

“And then, when these Packers’ fans need a job, or a girlfriend, what do they do? They go over the border, and they come to a real state, and they come to a real economy, and a real city. And they don’t leave their Packer fandom behind.”

“They bring the arrogance that they have, for Hall of Fame quarterbacking and all the wins with them. And that’s what makes the Packer fans insufferable.”

Packers’ fans shouldn’t have to leave their fandom behind if they move to Minnesota. But by and large, Vikings fans definitely approve of Charchian’s message.

And it’s not just the fans, as evidenced by the aforementioned statement the team put out after Lions’ fans took over Lambeau Field, and LaFleur’s tone when fans dare sell their tickets to opposing fans.

Matt LaFleur (again) proves he’s as insufferable as Packers’ fans are

The Packers moved to 6-3-1 on the season with a win over the New York Giants last Sunday. The next day, LaFleurĀ made sure to send an early messageĀ to Packers’ fans going into the game against the Vikings.

“Hopefully our fans will show up in droves and not sell their tickets to the Vikings fans, because we’ve seen that happen before,ā€ LaFleur said.

Yes, Mr. LaFleur, you’ve “seen that happen before.” Just like every other home team around the league, they play a division rival. Packers’ fans have infiltrated the Vikings’ home stadium for years (decades, really), be it Met Stadium, the Metrodome, or U.S. Bank Stadium.

But it’s somehow offensive when Vikings fans, or Lions’ fans, or even Bears’ fans, infiltrate Lambeau Field. As if it’s some sort of sacred ground, not to be desecrated by fans who are perceived as inferior.

Not that it wasn’t already clear, but LaFleur has again shown he is just as insufferable as the fans of the team he coaches are.
