Lukas Nelson to Join His Father Willie Nelson at Farm Aid, Creating a Powerful Family Moment in Minneapolis. ML

Lukas made the announcement on social media this week.

Farm Aid has always been a family affair. Willie Nelson’s band is called Willie Nelson & Family. It’s put on to support family farmers. And now, the first Farm Aid to be hosted in Minnesota is putting a little extra family element into the bill.

Lukas Nelson, son of co-founder Willie Nelson, has joined the lineup for Farm Aid 40, the songwriter announced on social media this week.

“As most of you know, my family is the most important thing in my life,” Lukas posted to social media earlier this week. “Recently, my father expressed that he would like me with him at Farm Aid this year.”

Lukas, who has spent time playing in Neil Young’s touring band, has heeded his father’s call, but it means the cancellation of a previously scheduled concert in Bristol, Tenn.

That concert was part of an upcoming tour in support of his debut solo record, the Shooter Jennings-produced American Romance

Farm Aid 40 will set up shop at Huntington Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota on Sept. 20 with a lineup that includes co-founders Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp, as well as Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, Margo Price, Kenny Chesney, Billy Strings, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Trampled by Turtles, Wynonna Judd, Steve Earle, Waxahatchee, Eric Burton of Black Pumas, Jesse Welles, Madeline Edwards, and the Wisdom Indian Dancers.
