CMA Awards Shake-Up: Lainey Wilson Takes Big Honors and Sparks a Fierce Fan Debate. ML

Lainey Wilson swept the CMA Awards once again — but some fans feel that other country artists, like Morgan Wallen and Kelsea Ballerini, were ‘robbed.’

Key Points
- Lainey Wilson won three CMA Awards, including Entertainer and Female Vocalist of the Year.
- Some fans argued Morgan Wallen deserved Entertainer of the Year, questioning Wilson’s repeated wins.
- Wilson has now won Female Vocalist of the Year four consecutive times.
Lainey Wilson just swept the CMA Awards — but not all country music fans are happy about it.
On Wednesday, Nov. 19, the “4x4xU” singer took home three awards: Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, and Album of the Year (for Whirlwind).
This is Wilson’s fourth consecutive year taking home the prize for Female Vocalist of the Year, and she previously won Entertainer of the Year in 2023.
After the CMA Awards announced her Entertainer of the Year win on Instagram, fans took to the comment section to congratulate Wilson — who also served as this year’s CMA Awards host.
“💯 earned by this queen! I think her tour was 60+ stops! And she is the humble, kind role model we need out there! Congrats @laineywilson,” wrote one fan. “Lainey is the true definition of entertainer!” commented another.
However, others felt that Wilson did not deserve Entertainer of the Year — with some fans saying that 2024 winner Morgan Wallen should’ve taken home the night’s biggest prize instead.
“I like Lainey, but this was Morgan’s. I don’t blame him at all for not coming to these award shows….smh,” wrote one user. “Listen I love Lainey…. But Wallen was robbed!!!!!” said another.

Another country fan felt the ceremony was too Wilson-heavy, writing, “Lol okay… can we maybe pick someone new now?? ACMs and CMAs were basically just a LW award show.”
While Wilson’s wins for Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year were slightly less controversial, some fans thought it was unfair Wilson took home the vocalist prize for the fourth year in the row. Specifically, fans noted they felt Kelsea Ballerini, who released her new EP Mount Pleasant last week, should’ve won instead.
After this year’s ceremony, Wilson’s career total CMA Awards is now 12. Currently, Miranda Lambert holds the record for most-winning female artist in CMA Awards history with 14 awards.
Wilson is now the third singer to win the Female Vocalist of the Year award four years in a row, after Lambert and Reba McEntire.
On top of that, she is now the third female artist to win Entertainer of the Year twice, following Barbara Mandrell and Taylor Swift.
