Genao boasts a 60-grade hit tool, which is scout-speak for “this kid can flat-out hit.” He’s not just making contact-he’s making quality contact, and he’s doing it against older, more experienced pitching. Add in a polished defensive game, and you’ve got a player who fits right into the Guardians’ mold of high-IQ, high-upside infielders.
The reality is, Cleveland is already loaded in the middle infield. Between Gabriel Arias, Brayan Rocchio, Angel Gimenez, Juan Brito, Daniel Schneemann, and top pick Travis Bazzana, the Guardians have a logjam of talent up the middle. It’s a good problem to have, but it also means someone-maybe even a couple of someones-could be on the move to make room.

There’s still development ahead-he’ll likely open next season back in Double-A-but if he keeps progressing, Triple-A Columbus could be calling sooner rather than later.
