“Wrigley’s” Warrior: Dansby Swanson Reveals Emotional Baby Name That Will Be Remembered Forever

The Cubs star and his wife, soccer icon Mallory Swanson, confirm their child’s name will be “Wills ‘Wrigley’ Swanson,” a tribute to the team, the field, and a “tradition” of fighting for Chicago.

CHICAGO – In a moment that has been awaited all season, Chicago Cubs star Dansby Swanson has revealed emotional and meaningful plans for his upcoming child, announcing a baby name that has left Chicago baseball and women’s soccer fans in awe.
In May 2025, Mallory Swanson—a star for the Chicago Red Stars and the U.S. women’s national team—and Dansby announced that they were expecting their first child. The couple has, until now, kept the baby’s name and birth date a secret.

But recently, according to close sources, Dansby confirmed that his little “warrior” will be named Wills “Wrigley” Swanson – a name that immediately evokes the Cubs’ legendary home field.
When asked about the reason for choosing this name, Dansby did not hesitate.
“I want my child to grow up with the will to fight, with the love for the Cubs that is in my blood,” Dansby said. “Just like I stood at Wrigley Field, where the fans shouted ‘GoCubsGo’, I want my child to know that when he puts on a Cubs jersey, he is not just a player – he is a warrior, part of the family.”
In a moment that rang out like an oath, Swanson added, “I will teach my child to fight like I once threw at Wrigley… to fight until my last breath for the Cubs.”

MallORY—an icon of women’s soccer and an Olympic gold medalist—also shared that she wanted her child to understand “the value of team, of sacrifice, and of team love” from a young age.
“We’re not just having a child – we’re starting a tradition,” she said. “And the name Wrigley is a reminder: ‘This is where Dad fought, and this is where you’ll learn that inspiration.’”
The announcement immediately caused a stir in the Cubs community. One fan wrote: “If the name is real – this isn’t just a Dansby child – this is the future symbol of the Cubs!” Another commented: “Sounds like a father-to-son relationship, like the Cubs tradition lives on.”
On the field, Dansby is still feeling the pressure of his big contract as he aims to bring another title to Chicago. But off the field, he is preparing for a bigger role: as a father.
“When we had this baby,” he said, “I knew I wasn’s going to fight for myself anymore – I was going to fight for my family, for the team, for the future.”

The name “Wrigley” – both a tribute and a challenge – is becoming a symbol of a constant flow between the Cubs’ past, present, and future. In a sense: this baby wasn’t just born – it was launched into being a true Cub.
