Bo Bichette expected to reveal Blue Jays free agency decision soon .MH

The Toronto Blue Jays received an update on the pursuit of infielder Bo Bichette.

The Toronto Blue Jays entered the MLB offseason following an incredible 2025 campaign. Toronto fell one win short of capturing the World Series title, a heartbreaking end to a remarkable season.
As the Blue Jays look ahead to 2026 with hopes of another deep postseason run, the biggest storyline centers on the future of Bo Bichette. The 27-year-old two-time All-Star has played shortstop in Toronto for the past seven seasons.
He has spent his entire career with the organization since being selected in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft. In 2025, Bichette posted a .311 batting average, .357 on-base percentage, .840 OPS, 18 home runs and 94 RBIs across 139 games.

Bichette missed the postseason until the World Series while recovering from a left knee sprain suffered on Sept. 6. He was not at full strength. He was limited on the base paths and in the field, which led to a move from shortstop to second base. Still, his bat remained elite when he returned. In seven World Series games, Bichette hit .348 with a .385 OBP, .923 OPS, one home run and six RBIs, elevating his performance despite the injury and lengthy absence.
Given the Blue Jays’ strong season and long-awaited postseason breakthrough, Bichette is expected to re-sign with the organization, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
“Bichette, who was expected to depart Toronto a year ago and whose name surfaced a year ago in trade talks, now is expected to stay put to complete their goodwill tour,” Nightengale reported on Monday.
The shift in outlook comes one year after Bichette’s departure seemed likely. Toronto’s deep playoff run generated significant revenue, which has changed the team’s offseason approach and made it a place where Bichette can feel confident about spending the rest of his career.
After the World Series loss, Bichette made it clear he wanted to remain with the organization, and Nightengale’s report reinforces that stance.
“I’ve said I wanted to be here from the beginning,” he said (h/t The Athletic’s Mitch Bannon). Given that he is a free agent, this may not be the strongest negotiation tactic for securing the largest possible deal from a contender.
Bichette remains the top priority, but Nightengale also reported the Blue Jays plan to pursue slugger Kyle Tucker, widely regarded as the biggest impact player on the free agent market.
“They just earned an extra $50 million or so in revenue from their World Series run. They’ll put it right back into the team and could be the favorite for Kyle Tucker,” Nightengale wrote.
With momentum, money and motivation on their side, the Blue Jays are positioned to be one of the most aggressive and intriguing teams of the 2026 offseason.
