The Giants just hit reset — and their next move brings them right back to Kansas City.QQ

Two former Chiefs coordinators for the price of one!

In the least shocking news you’ll hear today, Brian Daboll’s time as the New York Giants head coach has officially come to an end. The organization fired Daboll after he went an underwhelming 20-40-1 in three and a half years as the Giants head coach.
Why are we talking about this on a Kansas City Chiefs site? Well, because Daboll was in the Chiefs organization before the glory days we’re in now. He was not a part of the Chiefs’ glory days, serving as the team’s offensive coordinator in the miserable 2-14 season in 2012.
Daboll’s offense was not good in 2012, finishing dead last in points scored that year. Of course, he had Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn as his quarterbacks, which is important to note, but still. It wasn’t a surprise that he was not retained when Andy Reid was hired in the 2013 offseason.
In other news concerning former Chiefs coordinators, Mike Kafka, who served as the Chiefs quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for four of his five years in Kansas City, has been named as the interim head coach for the G-Men. Kafka joined Daboll’s staff in New York in 2022 as the offensive coordinator and was promoted to assistant head coach in 2024 while still holding on to his OC job.

Chiefs fans were a little disappointed when Kafka left the organization following the 2021 season, as Patrick Mahomes had experienced plenty of success under his tutelage. Mahomes did go on to win his second MVP award in 2022, the first year that Kafka was in New York, so obviously the Chiefs gunslinger was fine but he was still someone fans had been keeping up with from his time in K.C.
Now, Kafka will get his chance to show what he can do in a head coach role. The Giants are 2-8 and not going anywhere positive this year but if Kafka can continue to work his magic on rookie signal-caller Jaxson Dart and lead this team to some meaningful wins, perhaps he can stay in New York next season.
