Braves Hire Former Orioles Interim Manager Tony Mansolino as New Third Base Coach.vc

In a “strategic upgrade,” new manager Walt Weiss has hired Tony Mansolino, who guided the Orioles to a 60-59 record in 2025, to join the new coaching staff in Atlanta.

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves have officially made another key addition to their new Major League coaching staff, hiring former Baltimore Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino as their new third-base coach.
The move, which insiders are calling a “strategic upgrade” to the staff, is the latest in a series of hires by new manager Walt Weiss. Mansolino will take over for Fredi Gonzalez, who was informed earlier in the week that he would not be returning to the organization.

The hire is a significant one, as Mansolino, 43, is a highly-regarded coach who just recently completed a successful stint as the interim manager for the Orioles.

After Baltimore fired manager Brandon Hyde on May 17 following a 15-28 start, Mansolino was promoted from third-base coach to interim manager. He immediately steadied the ship and guided the Orioles to a 60-59 (.504) record for the remainder of the 2025 season.
Despite keeping the team afloat and earning praise from players, Mansolino was not retained for the full-time managerial job in Baltimore. His availability made him one of the top coaching candidates on the market, and the Braves moved quickly to secure him.

By adding a coach with recent, successful managerial experience to the dugout, the Braves are “sending a clear message: they mean business in 2026.” Mansolino will now turn his sights to driving Atlanta’s roster toward a return to contention.
