With a 5-4 record and currently on the outside looking in on the playoffs, the Kansas City Chiefs have to step it up throughout the final eight games of the season.

The Chiefs were riding a three-game winning streak before falling to the Buffalo Bills 28-21 on Sunday. Now on their bye week, they’ll have to sit with a bad taste in their mouth until they take on the Denver Broncos on Nov. 16.

Travis Kelce isn’t happy with the Chiefs’ start in 2025

“I can’t say that I’m not frustrated,” Kelce said on his New Heights podcast. “More from the entire start of the season than just this Bills game. I mean, there’s games that I don’t think we had any business losing. I feel like we didn’t come out with with our best punch against Buffalo. We got to find a way to clean all that up, man.”

Every game Kansas City has lost this season has been by one possession. All four losses have been to teams who currently have a postseason spot, and just one of its five wins has come against a team with a winning record. That makes it difficult to evaluate what caliber of team the Chiefs really are, but we’re going to find out soon as they have a brutal stretch of matchups coming up.

Travis Kelce knows the Chiefs must give their all to turn their season around

“We got to get back to playing passionate Chiefs football, dying for each other out there on the field,” Kelce continued. “Whatever that takes during the week to get yourself ready on Sundays. Even on a short week, it doesn’t matter. No excuses. We have a few games ahead of us where we’re going to have short weeks. I think there’s a stint around Christmas where we have back-to-back short weeks.”

The Chiefs have two short weeks left on their schedule. The first is their Thanksgiving matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, which of course will be played on a Thursday. Then they will host the Broncos on Christmas Night, which is also on a Thursday.

The Chiefs still have both of their matchups against the current AFC West leading Broncos to be played, and one more against the Los Angeles Chargers, who they already lost to in Week 1. They are also slated to take on the 7-2 Indianapolis Colts in a few weeks. If K.C. can’t find a way to consistently defeat good teams, it will not only be in jeopardy of losing its nine-year division title streak, but could miss the postseason entirely.
