Brock Purdy’s Availability Against the Giants Is Finally Revealed and Fans Are Bracing for Impact.QQ

The banged-up San Francisco 49ers desperately need a get-right game after suffering an embarrassing loss at the hands of the Houston Texans in Week 8, and a scuffling two-win New York Giants team might present the perfect opportunity.
However, it might be an opportunity for No. 2 quarterback Mac Jones, not Brock Purdy, to get things right from under center.
Purdy hasn’t seen the field since Week 4’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars where he aggravated a turf-toe injury suffered way back in the season opener in early September. As a result, the Niners’ franchise signal-caller has played just two games this season, leading to plenty of conversation whether the front office was justified in handing him a $265 million extension earlier in the offseason.
Yet that’s a discussion for another time, especially with Purdy inching closer toward reassuming his starter duties.
And he might have taken a substantial step forward ahead of San Francisco’s Week 9 road showdown against the G-Men.
But, don’t get too excited just yet.
Brock Purdy likely to be active vs. Giants but won’t start
Purdy has been a weekly inactive for the 49ers ever since the Jags loss despite practicing regularly in the weeks that have followed, albeit on a limited basis.
That might change, though, as NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reported on Friday how Purdy could be active for Sunday’s tilt at MetLife Stadium, although all indications are pointing toward Jones getting yet another start:
The 49ers depart for the East Coast this afternoon. My guess is Brock Purdy will be listed as questionable. Purdy could be in uniform against the Giants, but Mac Jones is likely to start. It seems he is best-prepared after taking the bulk of the practice snaps this week.

Purdy would be QB2 on the game’s depth chart.
Following Friday’s practice, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed as much, listing Purdy as questionable but announcing Jones as the game’s starter. Should Jones suffer an injury at some point during the game, Purdy would be available to enter as a reserve.
It’s a slight improvement over Purdy’s statuses the previous four games, but it’s still Jones’ show for now.
The Niners’ official inactives for Week 9 will be announced 90 minutes prior to kickoff, which will be at 1 p.m. ET from MetLife Stadium when they kick off against the Giants.
