⚡ Eagles’ NFC East hopes hang by a thread as fresh injury news compounds their nightmare after Cowboys defeat.QQ

Andrew Mukuba has been a key defender for Philly this season.

The Dallas Cowboys got the last laugh against the Philadelphia Eagles this past weekend. For Philadelphia, the defeat at the hands of their hated rival got even worse last in the game when one of their top young defensive backs was forced to leave that game with a clearly notable injury.
The latest update shed some light on Andrew Mukuba’s potential timetable to return.
Andrew Mukuba will have surgery for fractured ankle
According to Ian Rapoport, Eagles safety Andrew Mukuba will undergo surgery to repair his fractured ankle. He suffered the injury during Philly’s Week 12 loss to the Cowboys. His timetable to return is TBD – as it is currently unknown if he will be able to play again this season.

The Eagles really couldn’t afford this sort of news, due to the play of the depth in their secondary. Sydney Brown has struggled when given more chances to play, and he’s next in line to see more snaps with this potential loss of Mukuba for a long stretch of time.
Mukuba has been one of the young bright spots for the unit this season, proving that he was a value selection in this year’s NFL Draft. Along with other pieces in the secondary, the healthy version of that group has made plenty of plays. Their availability is now the biggest obstacle going forward. Not to mention, starting safety Reed Blankenship was also forced out of the Cowboys game due to injury.
There are no other safeties currently on Philly’s active roster. With both banged up, the Eagles may be forced to sign a free agent option and elevate a player from the practice squad. Andre’ Sam and Brandon Johnson are the two safeties currently on their PS.
Even with a multi-game lead in the NFC East, you cannot help but wonder if Philadelphia begins to look in the rear view mirror if the Cowboys continue to play impressive football and stack wins, starting on Thanksgiving against the Kansas City Chiefs.
